About the Vidhi

The vrat is kept on eleven (most commonly) or twenty-one consecutive Fridays, and the number is chosen at the sankalp. Kheer or another sweet is offered to Maa Lakshmi and shared as prasad. For the udyapan, seven married women (suhagans) are invited in the morning. Each receives kumkum, a coconut and a small gift such as a cloth, a steel utensil or a small ornament, and a special bhog of kheer, halwa or another sweet is offered and served. The pandit conducts the Lakshmi puja and the udyapan sankalp and guides the honouring of the suvasini. The weekly vidhi itself is done by the family.
