About the Vidhi

The Mandap Muhurat takes place at the homes of both families a few days before the wedding. The families seek blessings from Mother Earth and the gods so that the wedding goes smoothly, and the ceremony marks the official start of building the mandap. The Manek Stambh, the ceremonial pole of the mandap, is planted as part of the vidhi. Mango leaves, banana stems and marigold garlands, which symbolise auspiciousness, are traditionally used to decorate the mandap. A pandit conducts the puja and fixes the muhurat.
