About the Vidhi

The Rudri (Rudra hymn, beginning 'Namaste rudra manyava') is the central text for the worship of Lord Shiva. Eleven recitations make an Ekadashini, and an Ekadashini repeated eleven times makes a Laghurudra, 121 recitations in all. Larger forms are the Maharudra (1,331 recitations) and Atirudra (14,641). Because 121 recitations are shared among a team of pandits, Laghu Rudra is performed by a group, traditionally eleven. The ritual is completed with abhishek of the Shivling, a havan and purnahuti.
