About the Vidhi

The vrat begins on Ashadh Sud 13 and lasts five days. Grains are sown at home in a small pot and worshipped every morning with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and food without salt is eaten. On the fifth night the girls stay awake for the jagran, and the sprouted javara are then immersed in a river, stepwell or lake. The vrat is traditionally kept for a minimum of five years, and its completion is marked by the udyapan, with food offered to a Brahmin couple and donations. The daily worship is done by the family. The pandit conducts the udyapan puja and havan.
