About the Vidhi

Udyapan is performed once the Ekadashi vrat has been completed. The couple bathes and wears clean white clothes, and a Shodashopachara puja is performed to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. A kalash is set up and an Ashtadal Kamal (eight-petal lotus) is made. A havan is compulsory in the udyapan, and a learned Brahmin guides the rites, mantras and offerings. After the havan, puja items and household items are donated to the Acharya and Brahmins.
